CHEMISTRY QUESTION BANK
Instructions for Use

1. Click on a link in one of the columns to the right.

2. Your browser should prompt you to save the file selected and the name of that file. Save the file on your hard drive.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for other categories you would like to use.

4. Open the test bank file(s) you have saved in a word processor that can interpret RTF (rich text format) files. These files have been tested using Microsoft Word and Word Perfect; they should be compatible with other RTF-enabled programs, but have not been tested.
Note: To see the RTF file in the listing of available files to open under "File Type" you may have to select Rich Text Format (*rtf in Windows).

5. Scroll through the file to view the data.

6. Decide on a question you want to use in your test file.

7. Open a "new" word processor document (File, New) to receive the question chosen in step 6. This new file becomes your test file.

8. Select (highlight) the text of the question and corresponding answer with your mouse.

9. Copy the "highlighted" text into the clipboard (Edit, Copy) or use Ctrl + C on your keyboard to "copy" the highlighted text. (You can use the right button of the mouse to edit, select copy or paste).

10. Paste the previously "highlighted" text (your Ques. #1) into the "new" document (Edit, Paste) or use Ctrl + V on your keyboard to "paste" the highlighted text.

11. Edit the question (if necessary).

12. Change the question number to conform to its newly assigned number within the test file.

13. Repeat steps 8-12 to choose more questions as needed.

14. Save the new file on your hard drive (File, Save As).

15. An extra option: Prior to the first question in each of the 19 chemistry topics is a "Test Heading" and two sets of directions for chapter tests. These may be "copied" and "pasted" with the same procedure used to select questions.

16. Print the file with answers (This will be the TEACHER'S KEY copy).

17. Delete the answers from the document.

18. Check the format of the document for page breaks and other content. By deleting the answers, the "pagination" may have changed. In addition, you may want more "space" for students to write for "free response" type questions. You be the judge.

19. Resave the test file without the answers. (This is the "STUDENT"copy).

20. Print the newly created student test file without answers for later distribution to the students.

21. The Numbered Template, which can be downloaded and printed, is provided for those who wish to keep a record of that the year each question was used. The Numbered template is provided in both RTF and PDF formats.
